Sizing Up Single Payer

One of the guests in this week's Vital Signs series told us before the program that he'd just returned from a conference where he gave a presentation to doctors from around the country on Vermont's plans to overhaul health care. "They looked at me like I was from Mars," he said.

There are many ideas about changing the health care system in Vermont, and some of them compare to what's happening in other states, but Vermont's single-payer approach is unique. That was underscored on Monday's program (http://www.vpr.net/episode/50901/) when Nancy Turnbull of the Harvard School Of Public Health told us that unlike other states which have made incremental changes to health care, "Vermont really makes fundamental changes in the financing system."

Today on Vermont Edition we'll talk about the single payer system the governor wants to institute and hear what the concerns are about his approach. Call in or post your comments!
