This was a traditional holiday treat for my family. This recipe is almost a 100 years old. I still have the original recipe card in my grandmother's hand writing! Enjoy! - Cher, Williamstown
1 cup maple syrup
2 cups confectioner's sugar
1/2 cup undiluted evaporated milk
few grains salt
1 T butter
1 tsp vanilla
1 1/2 cups broken pecans
Mix first five ingredients in a heavy saucepan. Bring to boiling. Insert candy thermometer and cook over low heat to the softball stage (234-240 degrees). Remove pan from the heat, remove thermometer, add vanilla and pecans. Stir until mixture begins to thicken. Set pan in a larger pan filled with warm water. Quickly drop mixture by teaspoonfuls onto aluminum or buttered wax paper. Cool until set, wrap and give them to friends and family.
