Vermont Public Radio: isle la motte
Isle La Motte's emergency management director said the town is working toward rejoining the national flood insurance program. The decision is a result of Isle La Motte's experience during the floods last spring, when Lake Champlain rose to historic levels.
Policymakers say it's unclear whether more Vermonters are actually embezzling money, but there are certainly more media reports of the white-collar crime affecting cities and towns. So they're working to provide a set of standards for small town governments to thwart it themselves.
The Town of Isle La Mott has decided to move its welcome sign to higher ground after record flooding this spring. This year during the flood the sign was submerged and water covered most of it.
Isle La Motte residents voted overwhelmingly Saturday to use one-hundred-thousand-dollars that had been paid as restitution by former Town Clerk and Treasurer Suzanne LaBombard to cut the property tax rate.
