As Deadline Approaches, Welch Urges Seniors To Enroll For Medicare

Congressman Peter Welch says Vermont seniors can sign up for Medicare benefits now under the new health care law.
Welch visited with residents of the Cathedral Square complex in Burlington on Monday, and he reminded them that it's open enrollment season in Medicare.
"A lot of folks have already made their decision but some have yet to make it and it's time to review your medical situation and then to decide what's the best plan for you and how can you get the drugs you need at the lowest possible cost," Welch said.
The Obama administration says the Affordable Care Act created $5.1 billion of savings nationally just on prescription drugs.
Welch says in Vermont people with Medicare have saved $10.6 million because of the assistance the health care law provides.
More than 117,000 people in Vermont get their health care coverage from Medicare.
The deadline for signing up or changing plans ends this Friday.
