Update: The Electronic Communications Privacy Act

The Electronic Communications Privacy Act has been in effect since 1986. Senator Patrick Leahy has proposed legislation that would update it. The Senate Judiciary Committee is scheduled to mark up Leahy's bill on Thursday.
