Montreal Mayor Resigns Amid Corruption Allegations

Last fall, allegations emerged of widespread corruption in the construction industry in Quebec. Then-Premier Jean Charest called for a public inquiry and the Charbonneau Commission was formed.

The Commission has been hearing testimony from mafia members, government officials and party organizers. The fallout of this testimony became evident this week when Montreal Mayor Gerald Tremblay resigned.

Linda Gyulai, Municipal Affairs Reporter for the Montreal Gazette spoke with Vermont Edition about developments in the story.
