U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders celebrates his victory in Burlington.

Independent Senator Bernie Sanders cruised to re-election Tuesday night, defeating Republican John MacGovern with more than 70 percent of the vote.

Sanders gave an impassioned victory speech at Democratic headquarters in Burlington. He took aim at what he describes as "the right-wing agenda."

"Unlike those who think that Citizen's United makes sense and that a corporation is a person, we know what democracy is about - and that ain't democracy!"

Citizens United is the Supreme Court case that recognized personal rights for corporations, and opened up a flood of independent money in political campaigns.

Sanders says he's taking several key messages back to Washington. Among them: that Vermont will lead the nation in health care reform by helping to ensure that everyone has access to care.
