Vermont Incumbents Likely Safe

With a sitting U.S. senator, congressman, governor, lieutenant governor, attorney general and secretary of state all heavily favored to win re-election, it looks to be a good year for incumbents in Vermont.

Tuesday's election day also bodes well for the Democratic Party, which includes all those incumbents except for the Republican lieutenant governor Phil Scott, and Independent Sen. Bernie Sanders, who votes with Senate Democrats more than some of the party's own members do.

Vermont, ranked in some recent exit polls as the most liberal state in the country, was expected to report that its three electoral votes would land in President Barack Obama's column shortly after polls close at 7 p.m.
