Preparations have been underway for the last few days in anticipation of Hurricane Sandy's damaging arrival. Up and down the Eastern Seaboard this weekend, people stocked up on batteries, food, and water. In some areas, homes and shops were boarded up. And many states have been evacuating residents from low-lying coastal areas.
States of emergency have already been declared in Vermont, New York, and Massachusetts. New Hampshire governor John Lynch has put 100 National Guard troops on alert. And officials in Quebec are warning people who live near the St. Lawrence that the river could see flooding tonight and tomorrow.
Larry Crist is the Regional Executive Director for the Vermont and New Hampshire Valley Red Cross. He spoke with Vermont Edition about what people can you do to make sure that they're prepared, and what to do while the storm is underway.
