On NH Border, Brattleboro To Vote On Local Sales Tax

10/17/12 1:09PM

Brattleboro will decide this week whether to approve a proposed one percent local option sales tax.

Town officials say revenue generated by the tax would help to fund improvements to the fire and police stations in Brattleboro.

Local business organizations, however, see the tax as excessive and risky for the economy. They point out that Brattleboro borders New Hampshire, which has no sales tax.

Some concerned residents have formed a group to defeat the tax hike, even if it passes during a representative town meeting scheduled for this Saturday, October 20th.
