Arsonist's Resentencing Postponed

Attorneys in the case of a Vermont man serving a 40-to-60-year prison term for setting a fire that killed four people in 1999 have agreed to put a resentencing hearing on hold.

They'll wait until after the Vermont Supreme Court rules on whether Eric Williams deserves a new sentence.

Williams initially confessed to setting the Milton home on fire, killing Amelia Perreault and her three grandsons, ages 3 to 11.

Williams later challenged his sentence. And a judge had ruled in January that he deserves a new sentence.

But the Burlington Free Press reports a Superior Court Judge said yesterday that the Supreme Court will probably not rule on the appeals for at least another year.
