Judge Blocks NH Voter Law
In New Hampshire, a Strafford County Superior Court judge is ordering the state to change its new voter registration form before the November election.
Judge John Lewis has sided with advocacy groups who argued that the state's new voter registration law would block out-of-state students from voting.
He ordered the state to issue new forms removing the requirement that new voters declare themselves subject to all laws that apply to New Hampshire residents, including auto registration and licensing laws.
The law was challenged by the League of Women Voters of New Hampshire and four students represented by the New Hampshire Civil Liberties Union.
Republican House Speaker Bill O'Brien criticized the ruling, saying it shifts power to out-of-staters who vote in New Hampshire because it's a battleground state.
