COTS Day Station Closed By Flooding
The day station of a Burlington organization that helps the homeless is going to be closed for at least a month because a torrential downpour filled the building with 16-inches of water.
Committee on Temporary Shelter Executive Director Rita Markely says everything beneath the water mark was destroyed. She didn't have a damage estimate.
Water from the Wednesday night storm rushed downhill in Burlington, collecting around the day station at the corner of South Winooski Avenue and King Street.
COTS uses the day station as a location to provide the city's homeless with resources such as a location to conduct housing searches or attend nutrition classes.
Markley says they'll seek an alternate location while repairs are made.
