The Vermont Yankee nuclear power plant in Vernon is operating at 36 percent of its peak power. That comes after an electrical failure in a generator that regulates the flow of reactor cooling water.Just a few years ago, the cavernous old Beck and Beck shed in downtown Barre was a symbol of what ails the city's once thriving granite industry: It was being used to store headstones made from imported Chinese granite. Today the shed has been converted to a busy center catering to low income families in the area.
