Tropical Storm Irene damaged about a thousand homes last August. And many are still waiting for money to rebuild their damaged homes. Some people are looking to start over all together.
Now a coalition of Vermont and New Hampshire organizations are trying to make it easier for those homeowners to rebuild smaller, affordable and energy-efficient homes.
Anne Duncan Cooley is the executive director of the Upper Valley Housing Coalition, which is working on the Irene Cottage Home projects.
Duncan Cooley tells VPR's Mitch Wertlieb that while they were inspired by the small house movement of Katrina cottages that came out of that disaster, they had been looking at the idea for a few years.
