This
month, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that law enforcement officials can strip
search individuals who have been arrested and booked into jail, even for minor
offenses. The case involved a New Jersey man mistakenly arrested for failure to pay a fine
that he had, in fact, paid. In the course of six days, he was taken to two
county jails and strip searched at both of them.
VPR's Jane Lindholm talked with Department of Corrections Commissioner Andy Pallito about the case and what it might mean in Vermont.
