Student Paper Names Sullivan As Next UVM President

This morning, the University of Vermont is expected to officially announce its next president.

But an unofficial announcement spread on the social media website Twitter last night.

The campus newspaper The Vermont Cynic first reported on its Website that Thomas Sullivan, a former University of Minnesota provost and law school dean, was seen on campus as he took a tour of UVM's presidential mansion. 

University trustees chose the new president from four other finalists to succeed Dan Fogel, who resigned in August while an investigation was underway into his wife's relationship with a UVM employee.

The incoming president will face a tough assignment in restoring the university's finances while positioning it as a premier research institution.

Sullivan, who has served as University of Minnesota's Provost for the past seven and a half years, has Vermont ties. His wife is a UVM grad.

The university plans to introduce the new president to the campus community later this morning at an event at the Davis Center in Burlington, but officials will not confirm that Sullivan has been named the next president.
