St. Johnsbury Student In Critical Condition After Ski Accident
Tuesday, 02/21/12 12:04pm
(Host) A student from St. Johnsbury Academy is in critical condition after a crash on the ski slopes last week.
Chen Lin is a senior boarding student at St. Johnsbury who is from China.
Lin is a member of the school's alpine ski team and was taking a practice run at the Middlebury Snow Bowl when he crashed.
St. Johnsbury Headmaster Tom Lovett says the exact circumstances of the crash aren't clear. But he says Lin suffered a serious head injury.
(Lovett) "It's very serious. He's in critical condition. All injuries that are labeled that way are very serious. And as we know, traumatic brain injuries take a long time to recover from regardless of their severity."
(Host) Lovett says the student body is very fond of Lin, and students have begun to rally around him.
(Lovett) "He's a 3-sport athlete, he's a musician, he's a leader in his dorm, very popular. He's the kind of kid that plays with all the faculty kids - kind of the pied piper at meals with them - all the kids know him. Very well beloved."
(Host) Lovett says Lin's mother has traveled from Beijing to be with her son at Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington. Other family members are also coming to Vermont.
