The U.S. Department of Transportation is going to provide Vermont nearly $135 million to help the state repair roads and bridges damaged by Tropical Storm Irene and other flooding last year.
The money is in addition to an estimated $240 million in disaster assistance the Federal Emergency Management Agency expects to spend helping Vermont recover from Irene and the other storms.
And it's possible the state could receive additional disaster recovery money from other federal agencies.
Vermont's congressional delegation announced Wednesday the release of the highway funding money.
The FEMA money includes $72 million already spent and money for about 4,300 separate projects that are expected to cost FEMA a total of about $168 million.
Officials are still totaling the damage cost from last year's storms.
