Fellowship Hall in the Wilmington Baptist Church was badly damaged by the floods.
(Host) Another sign of the continuing recovery of downtown Wilmington, which was so hard hit by the floods of Irene: On Sunday, the Wilmington Baptist Church will hold its first worship service since August at its sanctuary.

The church is still rebuilding its Fellowship Hall, which was devastated by the flood because it's on the lower level of the building.

But the sanctuary is upstairs and is back in condition to host worshipers.

Pastor Doug LaPlante says the heat, electricity and plumbing in the entire building were destroyed in the flood. But they're expected to be back in working order by Sunday.

Pastor LaPlante says when he thinks about the flood, he doesn't focus on the devastation. Instead, he celebrates how people came together to help one another.

We've got more coverage about Wilmington and its church here.
