Susanna Grannis is an educator whose awareness of the HIV/AIDS virus began at a time when the disease was treated with silence and stigma.
(Host) On this World Aids Day, we turn our attention to Africa, where it's believed the epidemic originated several decades ago.

Susanna Grannis is an educator whose awareness of the disease began with a trip to Namibia, at a time when HIV/AIDs was treated with silence and stigma.

Concerned about the growing number of orphans in the region, Grannis founded CHABHA, Children Affected by HIV/AIDS.

Grannis speaks with VPR's Neal Charnoff about CHABHA and her new book "Hope Against Despair: HIV/AIDS-Affected Children in Sub-Saharan Africa".
