Thursday is world AIDS Day, and it is being noted in Vermont in many ways. The Chandler Center for the Arts in Randolph is staging a reading of the play "The Normal Heart."

In the early 1980s as the AIDS crisis was exploding, activist Larry Kramer wrote "The Normal Heart" as a screed against what he saw as national indifference to the disease ravaging the gay community. The play premiered in 1985 and hit Broadway this year.

Newbury actor Dan Butler, best known for his role as Bulldog on the TV show Frasier, is directing the Chandler reading of "The Normal Heart." He talks with VPR's Jane Lindholm about the production.
