Application Deadline Passes, But FEMA To Stay In VT
Monday, 11/21/11 Noon
(Host) Although the deadline to apply for federal assistance for damage from Tropical Storm Irene has passed, Federal Emergency Management Agency officials say they still have work to do in Vermont.
FEMA spokesperson Billy Penn says his agency will remain here to work with individuals and on public projects.
(Penn) "FEMA will be here for a good while. We'll have people who'll be here for an extended period of time to do whatever is needed. Some of them will be working with the individual applicants. Some of them will be working with the applicants for infrastructure assistance - the roads and the bridges and various other infrastructure projects."
Last week was the deadline for individuals to apply for assistance through FEMA and the Small Business Administration.
A total of 7,200 households asked for FEMA assistance. And 20 percent of them also asked for help from the SBA.
