The Shaker religion was founded in the mid 1700s in England and was brought to America by Ann Lee in 1774. In its heyday, small communities of Shakers sprung up all over New England. Now, there are only three living Shakers known in the world. They live in a village known as Sabbathday Lake, in Maine. But the Shakers left other legacies as well, which you can learn about at the museum.
VPR's Jane Lindholm takes a tour of the Enfield Shaker Museum in Enfield, New Hampshire with lead docent Arthur Gagnon.
