The Vermont Transportation Agency says a short stretch of Route 14 in East Montpelier has been reopened after repairs to damage caused by flooding from Tropical Storm Irene.
The stretch near East Montpelier village was restricted to one lane on Sept. 26 and then closed on Oct. 6 after a section began sliding into the Winooski River.
Engineers originally believed the road could be repaired while keeping one lane open.
Once the road was closed, highway crews stabilized the riverbank and rebuilt the roadway.
The area was paved Tuesday and then reopened to two-way traffic.
Additional work is expected for the next several days.
