Every Friday we check in with local editors and reporters about the stories making headlines in their region. The fall out from flooding from Tropical Storm Irene continues to be very much in the news.
The Commons, a Brattleboro-based newspaper has been looking into a low-income housing complex in West Brattleboro that may not be able to reopen, leaving 26 residents displaced. There's a dispute over whether or not 50 percent of the property is damaged. That's important because Brattleboro participates in the National Flood Insurance Program, and if a building is more than 50 percent damaged, it must go through the local review process for repairs, and that may mean significant upgrades to prevent future flood damage.
VPR's Peter Biello speaks with Commons reporter Olga Peters.
