A teacher at Essex High School has won a $25,000 award for her work in science.
The Milken Family Foundation says Maria Ung is an example for girls in her school who want to be involved in science.
Ung is the co-chair of the science department at Essex.
Teachers who win awards from the Milken Family Foundation are allowed to use the money any way they wish.
Ung was informed of the award at a surprise school assembly this morning.
