A top Vermont state official says the state is looking at multiple regional secure psychiatric hospitals to replace the flooded state hospital in Waterbury.

Administration Secretary Jeb Spaulding says Governor Shumlin and his aides agree that they should not try to reopen the antiquated state hospital. The hospital was closed by Irene's flooding.

Spaulding says the state is likely to make significant investments in regional facilities for some of the displaced patients.

He says the state is exploring options for where to put new psychiatric facilities.
