A train load of rocks will travel from Winooski to help rebuild a key state highway in Stockbridge.
The rock is being mined in Winooski, trucked to the Burlington Rail Yard and loaded onto trains for shipment to Bethel, where it's being used to rebuild Vermont Route107. That's a key link between the Interstate 89 corridor and Rutland and other points in western Vermont.
State transportation officials say they need enough rock to fill a football field about 100 feet deep. Big chunks of Route 107 were washed away by historic rains during Tropical Storm Irene.
