After Flooding, Homeowners Navigate Insurance Issues

A house that was destroyed by Tropical Storm Irene, in Rochester, Vt.
It's been six weeks since Tropical Storm Irene ripped apart some 700 homes around Vermont, heavily damaging some, destroying others.

That initial trauma having passed, a lot of families are now struggling with how to recover economically, and trying to figure out whether their losses are covered by insurance.

Helping us understand some of those loopholes and navigate the insurance maze is Susan Donegan, Deputy Commissioner of the Insurance Division at BISHCA, the Department of Banking, Insurance, Securities, and Health Care Administration. Donegan speaks with VPR's Mitch Wertlieb.
