Disaster Fund Deadline Approaches

Tuesday, 09/27/11 4:04pm

Neal Charnoff

(Host) The deadline is approaching for public assistance disaster fund applications.

These are federal funds made available from an emergency disaster declaration signed by President Obama following Tropical Storm Irene.

The deadline for most counties is this Saturday, October 1st. Grand Isle County applicants have until October 17th

Alec Portalupi is with the Vermont Agency of Transportation. He says the disaster funds are available specifically for publicly owned properties.

(Portalupi) "The vast majority of applicants under the public assistance program are municipalities, followed by certain private non-profits that qualify, and state agencies."

(Host) Publicly-owned utilities may also qualify.

Portalupi says help with the application process is available through the Agency of Transportation, the Federal Emergency Management Agency and regional planning commissions
