3 Weeks After Storm, Rutland's Water System Is Partially Restored

(Host)   Rutland residents no longer need to conserve water. 

As VPR's Nina Keck reports, crews managed to fully reconnect the city's reservoir to its primary water source Friday.

(Keck) Flooding from Tropical Storm Irene wreaked havoc with Rutland's water system.   

But after nearly four weeks, Mayor Chris Louras says they've finally managed to restore their normal connection to Mendon Brook, their primary water source.

(Louras) "The local residents can use as much water as they want but we need to be mindful that that can change as conditions change in Mendon Brook."

(Keck) He says they're not out of the woods yet, because the connection to their emergency backup water source, East Creek, was also destroyed during the storm.   

Louras says they can now focus their attention on fixing that problem. But he says he's unsure how long those repairs will take.
