A group of alumni from Vermont's Weston Playhouse are planning a Broadway fund raiser in New York to help the theater recover from last month's flooding.
What's being described as a star-studded benefit called "New York City Loves Vermont - Broadway Floods The Weston Playhouse" is scheduled for Sept. 26 at New World Stages.
The Weston Playhouse Theater Company had just completed a $700,000 renovation of its theater building when it was inundated by floodwaters from the remnants of Tropical Storm Irene. Repairs are expected to cost more than $300,000.
Co-producers of the fundraiser Gretchen Margaroli and Sharon Wheatley say they're gathered a growing list of theatre artists to appear in the one-night event, including Adam Guettel, Sally Ann Howes and Christopher Lloyd.
