Despite Heavy Rains, No New Flooding Reported

A Vermont Emergency Management official says that despite almost a day of heavy rains across much of the state no new flooding has been reported.

The National Weather Service had issued flooding warnings and watches for much of the state.

Emergency Management Spokesman Mark Bosma says the Waloomsac River in Bennington is expected to hit flood stage, but no problems have been reported as a result.

The heavy rains came a week after the remnants of Hurricane Irene dumped about 10 inches of rain on parts of Vermont, cutting off about a dozen communities and destroying or damaging hundreds of roads, scores of bridges and inundating communities from Massachusetts to Waterbury.

While no problems were reported early Monday, Bosma said it was still raining and people should remain vigilant.
