National Guard Troops From 3 States Head To Vermont

National Guard troops from Virginia, South Carolina and Maine are arriving in Vermont to assist in the clean-up from Tropical Storm Irene.

200 members of the Maine Air and Army National Guard arrived in Rutland yesterday. The Virginia National Guard is sending 25 soldiers and six dump trucks on Tuesday for a mission that could last up to 30 days.

And South Carolina's governor has authorized the deployment of 50 National Guard soldiers, 19 dump-trucks and six Humvees.  

The troops will be sent as part of the Emergency Management Assistance Compact, a multi-state aid agreement among states to share resources during disasters.

On Sunday, there were nearly 50 roads still closed around the state, 27 road washouts, and 19 closed bridges.
