Crowds gathered in Burlington to watch Thomas march in a parade Saturday morning. Thomas also made a few comments, thanking the National Guard and communities for helping the state work to recover from flooding caused by tropical storm Irene.
Thomas runs a summer hockey program in the area. The Davidson, Mich., native played for four years at Vermont and led the team to back-to-back trips to the NCAA tournament and the school's first Frozen Four in 1996.
Thomas led the Bruins to their first Stanley Cup since 1972. He won the Conn Smythe Trophy as the most valuable player in the NHL postseason.
