Until this year, that weather event was the marker against which all other floods in Vermont have been measured. And Nicholas Clifford says it still is.
Clifford is Professor Emeritus of History at Middlebury College and co-author with his late wife Deborah of the seminal history of the flood “The Troubled Roar of the Waters: Vermont in Flood and Recovery, 1927-1931.”
He speaks with VPR's Mitch Wertlileb about how the devastation of Irene may not quite equal its 1927 counterpart, but he explains that it does merit comparison.
