Storm Takes Toll On Weathersfield
Wednesday, 08/31/11 10:04am
(HOST) The town of Weathersfield, Vermont has not escaped the damage due to Tropical Storm Irene. Jane Sandelman of the Inn at Weathersfield says the weekend's heavy rains left many of the roads around the Inn impassable.
(Sandleman) "We took a walk up to Route 106 at Downers Corner and most of the road is missing up there so they're working on that, trying to get that open, but we're pretty much cut off from the North."
(HOST) Sandleman says she's opened the doors to the Inn at Weathersfield to those who need help. And even with the damage to nearby roads, it's still possible to get to the Inn.
(Sandleman) "I was in my office and a Fed-ex guy came in with a delivery and I looked up at him, and I was kind of shocked to even see him here and the first thing I said to him was, "How did you get here?" and he laughed and he said, "Oh, I had to go up and around and over and detour and bypass." But he got here and I was amazed."
(HOST) Route 131 east towards Interstate 91 is washed out. Both 131 and nearby Route 106 are closed due to the flooding.
