Vermont will get a new Supreme Court justice in the coming year as Denise Johnson steps down. Those interested in filling the position are applying now to the Judicial Nominating Committee. The committee will screen the applicants and present their recommendations to Gov. Peter Shumlin, who must then choose from that list.

Vermont Law School Professor Cheryl Hanna explains the process, the timeline and the pressure on judges throughout Vermont's court system.

Listen to Jane Lindholm's interview with Cheryl Hanna.
