Vermont Electric Co-op Upgrades Approved

The Vermont Electric Cooperative has won state approval for upgrades to about 17 miles of transmission lines, as well as improvements to substations in Lowell, Westfield and Jay.

Officials with the Johnson-based co-op say transmission lines to be upgraded are 40 years old and ready to be replaced. CEO David Hallquist says the upgrades will improve reliability on the system - particularly that serving Orleans County.

The hope is that reliability improvements will help promote business and job growth in the region.

The co-op is collaborating on the project with Green Mountain Power, which says the upgrades will help it move power from its just-approved Kingdom Community Wind project in Lowell.
