Sheriff In Court Over Police Duty Transfer
Despite an early defeat in court, the Franklin County Sheriff's Office is sticking with its lawsuit against the St. Albans city police department over which agency gets to assume law enforcement duties for St. Albans Town beginning July 1st.
Pietro Lynn is an attorney representing the Sheriff's Office, and tells the St. Albans Messenger that he will probably appeal a judge's decision denying a preliminary injunction.
The sheriff's suit followed a sealed bid process in which the sheriff and the city were the only bidders.
But Judge Robert Mello said there was no credible evidence city police had engaged in unfair pricing, and ruled that that an injunction would leave St. Albans Town without police coverage.
