Upper Valley Volunteers Seek Lasting Connections In Haiti
Monday, 02/28/11 5:50pm
(Host) Several groups from the Upper Valley have been involved in Haiti over the past several years.
Some are still there, and two other groups returned over the past week. Two journalists from the Valley News visited Haiti to see some of their work.
Much of the time, reporter Gregory Trotter and photographer Jason Johns followed a medical team from Dartmouth-Hitchcock.
On the last few days of their trip, they joined a small Upper Valley group called "Volunteers In Mission."
The group, which is associated with the Lebanon United Methodist Church, has been helping to build a church in Port au Prince.
Over the past week, the volunteers sponsored a vacation Bible school and were warmly welcomed by the Haitians.
VPR's Neal Charnoff speaks with Valley News Reporter Greg Trotter about what the group from Lebanon is trying to do in Haiti.
