Vermont has joined New York and Connecticut in a lawsuit against the Nuclear Regulatory Commission over the long-term, on-site storage of spent nuclear fuel. Vermont Attorney General Bill Sorrell believes the NRC was wrong in ruling that nuclear waste can be stored on site for 60 years beyond a plant's decommissioning date. Sorrell says that there should be site-by-site analyses done of nuclear power plants that take into consideration plants' proximities to urban areas or rivers.
