Business Groups Voice Support For Vermont Yankee
Friday, 02/11/11 6:06am
Vermont business and industry groups are renewing their call for the Vermont Legislature and Gov. Peter Shumlin to support the continued operation of the Vermont Yankee nuclear plant.
Associated Industries of Vermont, the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, and the Vermont Energy Partnership are both urging the Legislature to allow the Public Service Board to rule on whether the plant should be granted a state certificate of public good to operate for 20 years past the expiration of its current license in March of 2012.
The groups say the nuclear plant in Vernon has been a reliable and affordable source of power in the state, important to industry and Vermont's overall economy.
Governor Peter Shumlin reiterated his view that the plant should be retired.
