Governor Shumlin presented his budget plan to the Legislature on Tuesday. It included a number of cuts, especially to Human Services.

House Appropriations Chair Martha Heath wasn't surprised by the call for deep cuts. She pointed to the fourth successive budget that faced a deficit and the absence of Federal stimulus funds.

Senate Appropriations Chair Jane Kitchel says that the Legislature still has a desire and commitment to a balanced budget.
