Since 1990, a survey has been conducted every five years to measure Vermonters' opinions regarding their quality of life. The Pulse of Vermont Quality of Life Study is conducted by Dr. Vince Bolduc and Dr. Herb Kessell.

Bolduc says that Vermonters' concerns are greatly shaped by what is happening at the time. The most recent study was conducted in Spring 2010, so economic issues were paramount. The 2000 survey reflected the Civil Unions debate that was taking place then. Bolduc said the stability of opinions on measures of quality of life and well being over the 20 years of the study are notable.
