Senate Secretary John Bloomer with Lieutenant Governor Phil Scott.
Former Rutland County Republican Senator John Bloomer who has been named as the Senate Secretary. The Secretary advises members on procedural issues and serves as the Senate's lawyer.

Bloomer believes he's a good fit for the position because he has an understanding of the Senate rules, can provide non-partisan judgments and he has respect for the traditions and the institution of the Senate. He sees his role as even more important this year because of the number of new Senators in the legislature.
