Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington is the state's largest hospital. And with approximately 6,000 employees, it's also Vermont's largest private employer.

Fletcher Allen made two big announcements recently that have repercussions around the state.

It is proceeding toward an affiliation agreement with Central Vermont Medical Center in Berlin, and it's selling its out-patient renal dialysis centers.

FAHC President and CEO Dr. Melinda Estes says the affiliation with Central Vermont will allow the two hospitals to work together on regional strategic planning and better use of their collective resources. The affiliation creates a new parent corporation called Fletcher Allen Partners. Estes says that after the sale of the renal dialysis centers, Fletcher Allen will continue to provide their physician staff and that the new owner, Fresenius Medical Care North America, will adhere to the current clinical practice guidelines.
