When Governor-elect Peter Shumlin takes office in January, it will mark the first time since the Howard Dean administration that both chambers of the legislature-and the Governor's office-will be under Democratic leadership.

But that one-party majority doesn't necessarily mean harmony will reign in Montpelier.

Here to talk about the history of relationships both personal and political between former governors and past legislatures is Steve Kimbell.

Kimbell is recently retired, and is co-founder of the lobbying firm Kimball, Sherman and Ellis. He also has experience as former Governor Madeline Kunin's campaign manager. Kimbell says the most recent ride for single-party rule in Montpelier was a pretty bumpy one.
