Vt. Yankee Siren Tests To Begin
Tuesday, 11/02/10 6:06am
People in communities in Vermont, New Hampshire and Massachusetts that are in the emergency evacuation zone of the Vermont Yankee nuclear plant will be hearing longer-than-usual emergency siren tests.
Towns test their sirens once a month and usually run them for a matter of seconds. The November tests will require running the sirens for three minutes.
The first extended test will be in Hinsdale, N.H., beginning at 6 p.m. Tuesday.
On Wednesday, the Massachusetts towns of Bernardston, Colrain, Gill, Leyden, and Northfield will run their tests beginning at 7 p.m.
On Saturday, Nov. 6 at noon, the extended sounding will occur in the towns of Brattleboro, Dummerston and Guilford, Vt., while the New Hampshire towns of Chesterfield, Richmond, Swanzey and Winchester test their sirens at 12:30 p.m.
